Queensland’s far north, the tropics, has long been an inspiration for, and home to, some of Australia’s most significant artists, writers, musicians and songwriters. This edition of Artines is dedicated to this unique part of the continent — its atmosphere, culture and creativity. Contributors include Mackay-based writer and photo-essayist Ingrid Woodrow; Andrew Stafford, author of Pig City: From the Saints to Savage Garden; and printmaker and publisher Ron McBurnie. Torres Strait artists Dennis Nona and Alick Tipoti, and Cairns-based screen-printer Sam Tupou are profiled.
