Artlines: The ‘new art at GoMA’ issue

Issue 3-2008 (September)
paperback colour

The September–November issue of Artlines celebrates major new acquisitions for the Gallery’s Australian, international, Asian and Pacific collections — including a significant work by German artist Thomas Demand, a series of graphic prints by Tasmanian artist Matt Coyle, a portfolio of 31 etchings by British artists Jake and Dinos Chapman, a suite of prints by Californian artist Ed Ruscha, an installation of 39 metronomes by British artist Martin Creed, and Ron Mueck’s captivating and monumental sculpture In bed 2005. An interview with benefactors Tim and Gina Fairfax also profiles new and significant art works recently acquired with their support — a screen-based installation by South African-born artist Candice Breitz, a major sculpture by Slovenian-born artist Tobias Putrih, a series of photographs by American photographer William Eggleston, and a specially commissioned tapestry by New Zealand artist Yvonne Todd, created at the Victorian Tapestry Workshop.

Artlines also profiles the nine artists short-listed for the prestigious $75 000 ‘Premier of Queensland’s National New Media Art Award’. Glenn Cooke discusses ‘Light and Space: Colonial Art in Queensland’ and Tom Mosby explores the history of the Torres Strait headdress from Mabuiag, which featured in the recent ‘Picasso & his collection’ exhibition.

The usual mix of art, print and film reviews is also featured.

Artlines is published four times a year (March, June, September and December).
