James Gleeson: Peregian Codex
James Gleeson (1915-2008) often spent his annual holiday at Peregian Beach in Queensland, Australia. It was there that he created one of his most seminal bodies of work, the Peregian Codex.
On his 1982-83 holiday, Gleeson produced these surrealist decalcomanias, using collage to enhance the effect. Gleeson created these incredible works, inspired by the beauty and magnificence of the Peregian coastline.
Peregian Codex is a beautiful book and a fitting reproduction of some of Gleeson’s finest work. It is enhanced by Klepac’s notes, introduction and his interview with Gleeson.
