Other Histories: Guan Wei's Fable for a Contemporary World

Edited by Claire Roberts
168 pages paperback colour illustrations

Born in Beijing, Guan Wei emigrated to Sydney. His work is influenced by his experiences in both China and Australia.

Other Histories: Guan Wei's Fable for a Contemporary World, was an installation piece at Sydney's Powerhouse. Inspired by the Ming dynasty voyages of Admiral Zheng He (1371-1432) and his own migration to Australia, Guan Wei transformed the Powerhouse into a floating poetic corridor in which history and memory were blurred.

Other Histories: Guan Wei's Fable for a Contemporary World documents the exhibition. As well as fantastic photographs, it includes Guan Wei's artist statement and essays by Claire Roberts, Geremie R. Barmie, and Alexis Wright.
