Xstrata Coal Emerging Indigenous Art Award 2007
The Xstrata Coal Emerging Indigenous Art Award presents some of the most dynamic contemporary art being produced by emerging Indigenous Australian artists today. In 2007, the Award includes work in glass, video, photography, woven forms and painting. The participating artists in 2007 are Genevieve Grieves, Adam Hill, Netta Loogatha, Wanyubi Marika, Abe Muriata, Irenie Ngalinba, Phyllis Ningarmara, Yhonnie Scarce and Christine Yukenbarri. This annual acquisitive art award was established by the Queensland Art Gallery and Xstrata Coal in 2006 and offers artists from urban, regional and remote areas of Australia an opportunity to have their work displayed at a national level. The Award also contributes to the growth of the Gallery’s collection of contemporary Indigenous Australian art.
